Obituary - Celeste Fugal Grossman (August 31, 1955 - February 28, 2026)
It is with deep sadness, but thankful hearts, that we have to say goodbye to our beautiful, giving, and faithful mother, sister, and friend, Celeste Fugal Grossman. After several years of maintaining her diagnosis of medullary thyroid cancer, this past fall, Celeste learned the cancer had spread throughout her body and, unfortunately, took her far too early. She had a sense of humor about the cancer taking her, along with a hopeful disposition, even saying "I’m gonna be great, it’s these guys I’m worried about", in reference to her loved ones. She made the most of her dying days, or rather as she collectively called them, her "goodbye party." We will miss her dearly, but we are thankful she is no longer in pain and is rejoicing at the gift of being able to hug Jesse again. Celeste and her family have sincere faith and hope that we will all be back together again someday, and this is just a temporary goodbye.

Celeste Fugal Grossman was born on August 31, 1955 in Pleasant Grove, Utah, to Boyd and Venice Fugal. She is the seventh child of nine in the "Fugal Flock", as the family is so lovingly called. While sometimes crowded, she loved growing up on the farm with her three brothers and five sisters. Some of her favorite memories were feeding the bummer lambs with a bottle in the early mornings, and exploring the ditches and corn fields on the farm. She loved sharing a room with her sisters, and learned sewing, canning, and cleaning skills from her mom. The Fugal Flock had a strong faith in God, which Boyd and Venice instilled into their children daily. Celeste truly enjoyed being part of a big family and remained close to each of her siblings, especially her sisters.

In high school, Celeste was a part of the cross-country ski team, student council, Pep Club and a varsity cheerleader - as hard as those last two might be for some of us to believe. She was known for her bright smile and cheerful disposition, with her siblings often stating that she was very much her namesake, Celestial. She was a beautiful woman, with gorgeous dark brown hair and brown eyes. Her spirit within absolutely matched her outside beauty. Celeste attended college in Logan, Utah, at Utah State University and later transferred to BYU in Provo, where she hoped to pursue a degree in elementary education with an emphasis in special education. While she never became a teacher, she stayed plenty busy with her own children and was thankful for the knowledge she gained while at school, even if some of that knowledge was about herself stating, she had "very little creativity, and not a lot of patience."

On December 17, 1976, Celeste married Russell K. Adams in the Provo, Utah Temple. Together they moved to Delta, Utah, and later bought a dairy farm in Fountain Green. In those years on the dairy farm, Celeste and Russ had five children together, Jamie, Cy, Isaac, Jesse, and Amanda. When Amanda was just three-months old, they moved to Pinedale, Wyoming, where they stayed and settled their family. While Celeste and Russ went their separate ways in 1993, Celeste soon met Scott Grossman and they were married May 14,1994, and later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. Pinedale has been Celeste’s home for the last 40 years, and while she would often leave to go on world adventures; Greece, Brazil, Alaska, and Europe to name a few, with her siblings, she was always happy to drive home to the view of those beautiful Wind River Mountains. Celeste served the community of Sublette County as a dispatcher at the Sublette County Sheriff's office for nearly 20 years, and made a name for herself as "Go to hell Grossman." She worked hard and didn't put up with anyone’s crap, but despite the name, the officers and other staff loved her dearly.

Motherhood was Celeste’s joy. A few of the things her children will remember about her most are her wonderful talent of cooking, especially baking, with her chocolate chip cookies, homemade pizza, and dinner rolls being the treats they looked forward to the most. Even if it was just a grilled cheese sandwich, Mom just made it better. There was always spiritual music playing on Sunday mornings, and she was an incredible example of hard work and perseverance. Celeste was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lived a beautiful life of faith, service, and giving thanks to God; an attribute her children will forever hold dear. Celeste had quite the green thumb and loved spending summer mornings in her flower garden. Geraniums and tulips will always remind her children of their mom. It will be sad this summer not to see the abundance of color and her well-kept garden on Maybell Street.

While motherhood was Celeste’s joy, grandmotherhood was her abundance of joy. From her very first grandchild being born, to her last, she was there for nearly every birthday, every special event or performance, and was always ready to play and smother her grandchildren in love. It would be hard to find another grandma like Celeste Grossman. She gave them baths, fed them almost anything they asked for, spoiled them with water parties, movie nights, sleepovers, ice cream outings, day trips with just them and her, and so much more. While her children will absolutely miss her, their hearts ache even more for the loss of Grandma Celeste, or as some of her grandchildren called her, "Grammy" and "Gram Cracker." Celeste had a special relationship with each of her grandchildren and her memory will live on for many years to come, through them.

Celeste is survived by her husband Scott Grossman, her children, Jamie (Jeremy) Jones, Cy (Kate) Adams, Isaac (Stephanie) Adams, Amanda (Craig) Hadfield, step children, Anne Grossman and Byron Grossman, and daughter in law, Annie Adams. Her cherished grandchildren, Teesa, Michele, Honor, Easton, Gabe, Beckham, Ava, Tirzah, Noah, Eliezra, Luke, Jovi, Liam, Talia, Miles, and step grandchildren, Lyric, Lily, and Dylan. Her loving siblings, Connie (Sherrill) Taylor, Annette Erickson, Kathleen (Bruce) Burtenshaw, Guy (Paula) Fugal, Viola Gilbert, Niels (Tana) Fugal, and Patricia (Greg) Smith, and sister-in-law Jill Fugal, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her son, Jesse Adams, her brother Dan Fugal, brothers-in-law Steve Hunter, Gale Gilbert, Mel Erickson, and parents Boyd & Venice Fugal.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday March 10th at 11:00 a.m. at the Pinedale Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meeting house with a visitation one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will follow the services in the Pinedale Cemetery.
