Sublette COVID-19 update – Nov. 5, 2020

The Sublette COVID-19 Task Group held their weekly update via Facebook Live on Thursday, November 5th. The recording of the video can be watched on the Sublette COVID-19 Task Group Facebook page.

Some of the cases detected in the county this week arose from recent gatherings – including holiday celebrations and other events, both private and public. Sublette County Public Health reminds the public to remain vigilant about social distancing and wearing masks if you chose to attend such gatherings.

The video briefing included a discussion of mandatory masking, and how the county plans to handle patients if regional hospitals are no longer able to accept our patient transfers. County Health Officer Dr. Brendan Fitzsimmons also talked about the increase in hospitalized patients from Sublette County, including one case in which a person in their mid-40s contracted the virus and was hospitalized for three months and is now permanently disabled due to this disease.

Highlights:
- There are currently 197 confirmed tested positive and assumed positive COVID-19 cases in Sublette County. 36 of those are active, 170 have recovered.
- There are currently 82 people in quarantine or isolation in Sublette County. They are spread all around the county.
- There are three Sublette County residents currently in hospital intensive care units due to COVID-19.
- Two medical isolation units will be coming into the county next week for use for COVID-19 patients. There will be one at each end of the county. They are being made by the local company Enviromedial.
- With positive case numbers going up, Sublette County Public Health Officer Dr. Brandon Fitzsimmons has been considering a mandatory mask order for the county. So far, he is waiting on submitting it hoping more people in the county will Mask Up. They are getting some resistance from some people to wearing masks and cooperating with the contact tracing process.
- Dr. Fitzsimmons is holding an informal contest to get ideas on what to name the new Critical Access Hospital.
- The Sublette COVID-19 Response Group is holding a photo contest to request submissions for their winter COVID-19 poster campaign. They are seeking outdoor winter recreation activities. Submit with the hash tag #covidstopswithme. The want to use them to show social distancing comes naturally in Sublette County.
- The Task Group again emphasizes and requests that people wear masks when they cannot keep the 6’ social distance from others. They expect the number of coronavirus cases and flu to increase during the winter months as people are congregating indoors. If you can avoid groups and being in close contact with other people for long periods of time, especially for the upcoming holidays and special events, they strongly recommend people do so to try and slow the spread of this contagious virus. Public Health thanks everyone for their cooperation.
