We have revised our state map to show the status of Wyoming for current COVID-19 cases as of Monday morning, May 11, 2020. This is just showing a snapshot in time during the COVID-19 pandemic in Wyoming.

The current way most places report the numbers show total cases, which is a number that never gets smaller and doesn’t reflect the recovery made over time. Many counties have all patients recovered and therefore have 0 current cases at this time - these are shown in green. Counties with 1-10 active COVID-19 cases are shown in blue. Take the green and blue together, and it’s a pretty encouraging picture of how well most of Wyoming has done with social distancing and keeping the exposure rate down. Counties with 10+ cases are shown in orange – even these numbers are tiny compared to many other places that have been hit much harder. Only one county, Fremont, has had over 100 cases of laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases. The counties shown with red borders have had at least one death.

The deaths in Wyoming due to COVID-19 remains at 7, unchanged since April 22nd. Fremont County has had the most cases of COVID-19 (176) and the most deaths (4 as of the writing of this article). Two counties have not had any confirmed cases to date (Platte and Weston). Nine of 23 counties now have no active cases, all patients have recovered and are back in general circulation. Seven counties only have 1 active case today who is still sick and is in isolation.

On this map, the large number shown in each county border is current active cases today; (#) shows total lab confirmed COVID-19 cases for that county. The difference is the number of recovered patients.

This graphic is good only for one day, Monday, May 11th. The numbers change daily, but we wanted to show that the picture has been improving and there are only a couple of hot spots remaining in Wyoming that are still struggling with COVID-19 spread. The disease is still out there and there is no cure or vaccine for it yet. It is still important to be mindful and careful with social distancing and good hygiene practices so the improvement continues. Vulnerable people with health risks should continue to take steps to protect themselves from possible sources of infection.
