Pronghorn are starting spring migration

One of the really cool things about living in western Wyoming is the bountiful wildlife that we share the landscape with. There are deer, moose, elk, antelope, black bears. grizzly bears, wolves, to name a few. In the spring as the snow melts, the big game herd animals start moving up from their winter range at lower elevations to their summer ranges in the Upper Green River Valley. Deer have been moving up for several weeks now.

The pronghorn herds, commonly called antelope, have just started to cross over the Trappers Point wildlife overpass on US 191 between Pinedale and Daniel. People have a great opportunity to have a close-up view of the migration in progress by watching the live webcam that is positioned on the wildlife overpass. Wildlife managers prefer that people not try to get physically close to view the animals when they are in their migrations. The webcam is perfect to get that up-close view without disturbing the animals. In addition, the BLM land around the overpass, and road up to Trappers Point historical monument, are closed to public access until May 1st.

To view the live cam, go to www.trapperspoint.com.

Note that it may take up to 30 seconds to connect to the camera. If you cannot seem to connect or get an error message, make sure your browser has java enabled. When viewing, after about 15 seconds, you will need to slightly move your mouse or you will be disconnected from the camera and your screen will turn black. The cam is set to do a patrol about every 5 minutes taking snapshots of various directional views that are archived for historical purposes. Site administrators monitoring the view can log directly into the camera and stop the patrol, manually controlling the view direction and zoom to follow herds across the overpass.
