The Sommers Homestead Living History Museum is hosting their end-of-season 9th Annual Open House on Sunday, September 1st.

If you haven’t had a chance to visit the Homestead yet this summer, this weekend is your last chance for 2019.

The Homestead will be open Friday and Saturday, August 30 & 31, from 10AM to 3PM for their last weekend of their regular summer season. Then on Sunday, they’ll have their end-of-the-year annual Open House from 10AM to 3PM.

Everyone is invited to come out on any of the three days, but don’t miss the big celebration on Sunday. There will be a free lunch starting at 11:30AM with beef, potatoes, beans, bread, salad and lots of delicious home-made pies and desserts. Jared Rogerson will be playing live music during lunch.

Then starting at 1PM, they’ll have a ceremony recognizing five local area cowboys and cowgirls who were inducted in 2018 into the Wyoming Cowboy Hall of Fame for Sublette, Lincoln and Sweetwater counties. Those people are Joe Chrisman, Sid Skiver, Elbert & Hazel Walker, Charlie Noble, and Mickey Thoman.

The Homestead offers lots of hands-on history for the whole family. Stations will be set up for washing laundry on wash boards, pumping water with a hand pump, collecting chicken eggs, finding blocks of ice in the Ice House, leather craft, and more. The Homestead is a cooperative project between the Sublette County Historical Society, Green River Valley Museum, and siblings Jonita and Albert Sommers.

The homestead is located 7.3 miles south on the East Green River Road. At the Cora Junction on US 191, turn south and stay on the high road. Watch for signs. For more information and a map, call the Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale, 307-367-4101 or stop by the Visitor Center in Pinedale.
