Pinedale dancers win awards at competition
March 28, 2019

Pinedale’s WYLD Dance Company competition team returned from Idaho Falls in mid-March with tons of trophies for great dance performances, including a high-point honor for a team dance.

WYLD Dance Company studio owner and competition team coach, Anastastia Hamilton could not be happier with her dancers’ performances.

"I am so proud of these girls," she said. "They worked incredibly hard all year, and it paid off for them. They were supportive of one another and truly worked as a team. I could not be happier and proud of these incredible young ladies. It was a wonderful experience for all."

The competition team initiated last fall in November, with a task of learning and performing two team dances for the March 15, ASPIRE challenge in Idaho Falls.

The team garnered a Ruby Award for the contemporary piece dancing to "Hold Me Down" in the Elite, Amateur Contemporary category along with a Ruby for the team’s Elite Amateur Jazz ensemble performed to "A Little Party," which also earned the highest points in the Elite Division.

Team members include Abigail Scanlon, Kirsten Klaren, Jillian Warembourg, Emily Edwards, Inez O’Connor, Jorja Warembourg, Cady Eaton and McKayla Eaton. Corlee Howard, who is also a team member, aided in pre-dance prep with Coach Hamilton.

Along with team dances, several dancers opted to perform in solo competitions.

"It takes a lot of courage to dance onstage without any other team members," Hamilton said. "These girls took the challenge and shined. Their individual talents were amplified during these performances, and their creativity and love for dance shined through. They all did very well."

Dancers garnered points for their dances that translated into performance levels of Diamond for the highest, Ruby second highest, Sapphire third highest, and Emerald for fourth. In categories that had more than one dance participating, place awards were also given out.

In solo competition, Jillian Warembourg earned a Sapphire trophy for her Teen Jazz performance to "Copycat" along with Jorja Warembourg with her Elite Jazz dance to "One Time." The two Warembourg dancers also garnered a Sapphire trophy for their Teen, Amateur duet piece to "Start a War."

Inez O’Connor garnered a Ruby, first-place trophy for her dance to "Castle" in the Elite Amateur contemporary category. McKayla Eaton danced to "Drowning" in the Elite, Amateur Intermediate Jazz category, earning a Ruby first-place award.

Cady Eaton received the top honors with a Diamond, first-place award for her performance to "Roses are Red" in the Elite, Amateur Intermediate Lyrical division.

"WYLD Dance Company plans to continue to do competition in the years to come," Hamilton said. "We will begin planning for next year’s competition season this summer. We are even looking into taking some younger dancers next year, if there is interest. We plan on working towards Nationals. I am so excited to see what the future has in store for our studio. Let’s get WYLD."

The same group of soloists plan to take the stage again in April for the Aspire competition in Rawlins, April 26 and 27, 2019.
