Area Closure around Marten Creek Fire reduced
by Bridger-Teton National Forest
September 30, 2018

September 29, 2018 - Supervisor Tricia O'Connor signed a new closure order (No. 04-03- 592) for the Marten Creek Fire Saturday, reducing the size of the emergency area closure for roads, trails, and lands around the Marten Creek Fire on the Greys River and Big Piney Ranger Districts. The order goes into effect on Sunday, September 30, at 6 a.m. It opens Greys River Road but keeps the area east of the road closed. Elsewhere, it generally follows the fire perimeter but extends north of the fire along Ridge Creek Road (FSR 10366) and Ridge Creek Trail (unnumbered) to the divide ridgeline on top of the Wyoming Range (see accompanying order and map).

People using trails adjacent to the fire area must do so at their own risk. Fire-weakened trees could fall at any time and without warning. Be prepared for trails to be impassable at any point. Large logs or stumps well within in the fire's interior will continue to smolder and produce smoke until the area receives significant precipitation; however, they do not pose a threat to containment. The fire within uncontained sections of the perimeter has the potential to become active in hot, dry, windy conditions. Large amounts of smoke or black smoke indicate an increase in fire activity that could potentially be dangerous. Remain vigilant and maintain situational awareness.

As incident complexity decreases and containment increases, the Type 2 incident management team—Great Basin Team 3—has been preparing to transfer command of the fire to a local Type 4 organization on Sunday, September 30, at 6 a.m. Aerial resources and numerous firefighters remain to assist with the fire-suppression and suppression-repair efforts. Stage 1 fire restrictions are in effect on the Forest (excluding Wilderness Areas). For more information on Stage 1 restrictions, go to tetonfire.com.
