Wyoming En Plein Air
by Sublette County Artists Guild
April 3, 2018
Sublette and Mixed Media artists are looking forward to joining other artists from across Wyoming and beyond in Jackson Hole for the annual convention of the Wyoming Artists' Association.
Laurie LaMere of Pinedale and Jackson, 2017-2018 WAA president, has been working diligently all year to prepare for the event. All festivities will be held at the Virginian May 4, 5, and 6, 2018.
This year's theme is "Wyoming En Plein Air". Artists are encouraged to arrive early and paint along the way or in the Jackson area on Thursday and Friday and then enjoy a weekend packed full of activities to include the Quick Draw and auction, the choice of three workshops conducted by renowned area artists, art exhibit with awards to be determined by judge Jim Wilcox, and luncheon and costume banquet before bidding farewell on Sunday.
Categories for the art exhibit include Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor, Pastel, Graphics, Miniature, Theme ("Wyoming En Plein Air"), Sculpture, Pottery, Other, Governor's (a piece will be chosen to be displayed in the Wyoming governor's office for a year), and Congressional (three pieces will be selected for display in Wyoming's congressional offices, Washington, D. C., for a year.) There will also be 6 in. x 6 in. art work on display for silent auction...a fundraiser for WAA. Laurie has arranged for Purchase Award donors. This is a "first time ever" for the organization.
Registration is from 1:00 to 5:00PM on Friday, May 4. The public is invited to a Quick Draw and auction beginning at 7:00PM. Artists may set up from 6:00 to 7:00PM.
Workshops begin at 8:30AM Saturday, May 5. Instructors are Susan M. Rose (oil), Fred King will (watercolor), and Jennifer Hoffman (pastel). The social hour and costume banquet begin at 6:00PM with entertainment provided by duo Sally McCullough and Jenny Landgraf. The Grand Wyoming Artist of 2018 will be introduced.
Workshops resume on Sunday, May 6, from 9:00AM to noon.
New members are always welcome. Dues are $25.00 per year. For more information and guidelines regarding the event and membership, please contact Laurie LaMere, firstname.lastname@example.org.
