On Friday, Oct. 27, Science Café will be back in Pinedale. The Sublette County Library and Sublette BOCES are hosting three short presentations by researchers from the University of Wyoming at 6 p.m. at the Sublette County Library Lovatt Room. A light meal and beverages will be provided.

This Science Café will feature three scientists who will present on a wide range of topics. One researcher is Dr. Dorothy Tuthill and while she is known across the state as an expert on Wyoming wildflowers this talk will focus upon Lichen. The talk is entitled, "Freddy Fungus & Alce Alga: Biology and Diversity of Lichens." Zoe Ash-Kropf, a Graduate Assistant at U.W., will present a talk she has titled, "There’s Life in Wyoming’s Alpine Soil!" The third talk will be presented by Rebecca Wilcox, a PhD. Student, and it is on the impact of invasive birds on Hawaiian ecosystems.

The format for the evening starts with an informal gathering for sandwiches, chips and drinks followed by the talks. Each talk lasts about 15-20 minutes and it is followed by a lively question-and-answer session with the audience. The primary intent of Science Café is to create interest in science.

Sublette BOCES is also hosting the researchers at a Science Café Jr. for elementary students in grades three through five on Friday, Oct. 27 from 2:15 – 4 p.m. Liz David, Pinedale Elementary, science teacher, is helping organize the event and it will be held at the Sublette BOCES facilities on North Tyler (665 N. Tyler). Flyers will be going home with students. The event will both encourage young students to enrich their learning about science and will promote science-related careers choices.
