Former sheriff sentenced
July 27, 2017

Former Sublette County Sheriff Stephen Haskell was in District Court on Thursday, July 27th for the sentencing phase of his criminal proceedings. At trail earlier, Haskell had been found guilty of three felonies: obtaining property under false pretenses, unlawfully receiving property and making a false claim – as well as one misdemeanor, performing an official duty before being qualified to do so. The starting incident of this case began when newly-elected Haskell ordered new uniforms for the Sublette County deputies prior to his being sworn into office.

After hearing from both sides as well as two victim witness statements, Fifth District Judge Steven Cranfill suspended prison time for successful completion of a nine-month Adult Community Corrections (ACC) work-release treatment facility program and five years of concurrent supervised probation. He will also be required to pay court costs and fines. Haskell’s attorney plans to appeal to the Wyoming Supreme Court.
