Everyone is invited to come to the Lovatt Room in the Pinedale Library on Friday evening, March 3rd from 6-9:30PM for a photographic journey with local explorer Hank Williams. Hank spent decades exploring the Wind River Mountains of western Wyoming and has a passion for the place and capturing the beauty through his photography. He has given a number of talks and slide show presentations over the years. He has summated Gannet Peak, the highest peak in the state of Wyoming, three times, as well as Fremont Peak and many others in the range. He has done many excursions deep into the mountains in both summer and winter.

Hank has recently collaborated with the Museum of the Mountain Man to create a new website called "Stories from the Wild" adventurers past and present of Wyoming’s Green River Valley and Wind River Mountains. The website can be found at www.storiesfromthewild-wy.com.

The scenic Wind River Mountains and Green River Valley of western Wyoming have attracted people for thousands of years. In more recent time that we can document, many of the early trappers and explorers who came to the area also had a strong connection and love for this land. These men, who today we call the "mountain men", were the hardy trappers of the Rocky Mountains in the early 1800s, known for their wild adventures. Their early explorations and knowledge of the land helped find the pathways and travel routes across the wild and unknown west. Their explorations paved the way for later people to find their way through the land. These were people like Jim Bridger, William Sublette, and Thomas Fitzpatrick, whose names now are attached to the wilderness areas of the Wind River Mountains and Sublette County. These rugged individuals were the early scouts and pathfinders of the westward expansion and settlement by pioneers of early America. The people today who love being in the mountains, being self-reliant, and enjoy testing their mettle to survive on their own in the wilds, are today’s adventurers, connected in spirit with those famous and admired individuals who came before and bonded with the land. The new collaborative website helps showcase these connections by connecting the past to the present and the present to the past, to help people better understand who we are, where we came from, and why we are the way we are today.

So come over to the Pinedale Library on Friday, March 3rd, 6PM for an evening of entertainment and adventure with Hank Williams. The event is sponsored by the Museum of the Mountain Man. There will be free pizza. BYOB.
