Practicing to get the shot

Dave Bell tells us that a pretty serious winter mountaineering expedition is headed out of Pinedale over the next couple days to summit both Gannett and Fremont Peaks in the Bridger Wilderness of the Wind River Mountain Range. He has been practicing working on his ‘digiscoping’ skills to capture the group on top of Fremont Peak with the American flag when they summit. A "digiscope" is new system of taking pictures through a spotting scope using a mirrorless camera, "digidapter" and spotting scope. This picture of the face of Mt. Bonneville was taken at sunset from Dave’s house near Pinedale using a Kowa 884 Spotting Scope with a 20-60X magnification eyepiece, a digidapter and a Panasonic GH3 Mirrorless Camera. The image is not cropped or enlarged, with only minimal post processing. According to SIRI, Mt. Bonneville is 26 miles as the crow flies from Dave’s house. Fremont Peak is 21, according to SIRI. "When the guys summit and hold up the American Flag, I am hopeful to get a shot," he said. Click on this link for more of Dave’s scenic photos of the area: Dave Bell Photo Gallery
