Mountain Springs Ranch Lake Unit conservation easement project completed
by Green River Valley Land Trust
November 5, 2015

Boulder landowners DeWitt and Katherine Morris have donated a conservation easement on a 280 acre portion of their Mountain Springs Ranch, located just below the Scab Creek Elk Feed Ground and adjacent to the Red Desert to Hoback Mule Deer Migration Route. The Lake Unit easement is designed to prevent fragmentation of critical wildlife habitat, preserve historic ranching activities and allow hunting and other recreational uses forever. The ranch is home to many important species of wildlife as well as Camp GROW (Green River Outreach for Wilderness; please see www.greenriverfoundation.com), a non-profit youth camp focused on fostering respect and caring for wilderness through adventure and faith.

In addition to the generous donation of development rights by the Morris's, a variety of partners provided support and assistance for the project. The Wyoming Governor's Big Game License Coalition, Cross Charitable Foundation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, former Advisory Board Member Mary Lamy and several other individual donors contributed to the completion of the easement.

The Green River Valley Land Trust would not be able to take on projects like this one without your help; each time we accept an easement we are promising to take care of it forever. This responsibility includes annual monitoring visits, maintaining appropriate insurance coverage, staff time to answer questions and to assist landowners with conservation related improvements. We are honored that you believe in our mission and have chosen to invest in Sublette County conservation with us!
