Summer lunch program continues in Pinedale
by St. Andrew’s in the Pines Episcopal Church
June 15, 2015
Last year, St. Andrew’s in the Pines Episcopal Church was awarded a grant from the Gayle McMurry Kinnison Endowment Fund held by the Wyoming Community Foundation and approved by the Wyoming Community Foundation of Sublette County to feed children during the summer. Enough grant money was left from last summer to enable the program to continue this summer also.
St. Andrew’s has joined with the Pinedale Community UCC Church in this cooperative project. Starting June 8th, children will be offered lunch on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the Community Church site at 113 S. Maybell, directly across from the public library. Lunch will be served from 12-12:45 on those three days through August. The grant funds will be used for the purchase of the food and supplies. The project will be organized and supervised entirely by volunteers.
Both the Rev. Jami Anderson and Rev. Carol White are excited about the program and happy to offer it again this summer. "We started last summer in offering a meal during the summer months when there are no school meals available and kids may remain hungry. Every day we were open last summer we fed between 20-30 people. We intend to keep this simple and if a child shows up to eat between 12-12:45, they will be fed. And we’d like having the youth assist us in the clean-up and perhaps the serving of the meals. We know that this lunch hour three days each week is a happy, healthy hour of community and caring."
Flyers with information about the meals have been sent home from the schools and hopefully others will get the word out in the town. Sign-up sheets to help with the cooking, baking, and serving are available at either of the churches or one may call Jami Anderson at 307-749-3265 or Carol White at 307-231-5818.
Funding from the Wyoming Community Foundation comes as part of their mission to connect people who care with causes that matter to build a better Wyoming. One can visit their website at www.wycf.org.
