Nordic ski grooming report – March 9, 2013
March 9, 2013

Report courtesy of Mike Looney
Saturday, March 9: All trails in good condition. This weekend is the snowmobile hill climb at White Pine. The trail on the east side of Lower Surveyor is blocked this weekend where it goes under the ski jump due to the hill climb event. This portion of the trail is closed, no skiers allowed beyond that point Friday and Saturday. The portion of the trail that used to go along the parking lot to get to the White Pine lodge has been plowed up to create more parking, so there is no Nordic skiing to the lodge anymore.

Parking will be limited this weekend and carpooling is encouraged. Expect more traffic on the road and drive with caution. Nordic skiers should be able to park at the top of the hill where the plowing ends on Skyline Drive, Kelly Park, at Half Moon Lake overlook, there is a little bit of parking in by the Nordic building. In theory, Nordic skiers should also be able to park and enter for free to use the White Pine Nordic trails if they do not plan to partake in the hill climb events, however there will be people collecting $5 admission at the top of the entrance to White Pine. Anyone trying to get in just to Nordic ski will need to explain they won’t be going to the hill climb and then try their luck at finding parking. Snowmobilers who are just going up Skyline Drive and not involved in the hill climb events can also park at the small parking area at the end of Skyline Drive, but expect limited parking availability and turn-around space. Forest Service officials will be on hand both days to help direct traffic to help people find parking for where they are trying to go. The Golf Course and CCC Pond trails won’t be groomed again unless we get more snow.

There will be a free shuttle bus from Pinedale to the ski area operating a ˝ hour intervals. Carpooling and taking the shuttle bus are encouraged this weekend! There will be a $5 admission charged at the entrance to White Pine on Friday and Saturday because of the hill climb. The ski hill is OPEN for alpine skiing operations. Season pass holders do not have to pay at gate.

Hill Climb event schedule is 8AM to 5PM each day. Bus will depart town hourly at a 30 minutes past the hour schedule from town departure points. Bus will depart White Pine at the top of each hour. The last bus will be at 5pm.
