Green River Valley Cattleman’s Association annual meeting & banquet March 1 & 2
by Green River Valley Cattleman’s Association
February 13, 2013

The Green River Valley Cattleman’s Association (GRVCA) is a coalition of ranchers and associated businesses dedicated to preservation and sustainability of the livestock industry in Sublette County. The annual meetings and banquet will be held this year March 1 and 2nd, and everyone who has interest in Wyoming agriculture is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Friday, March 1st meetings will begin at 1:00 pm at the Marbleton Town Hall, with discussion covering grazing issues on BLM and Forest Service, and wildlife issues with Game and Fish. Saturday meetings will also begin at 1:00PM, but will be held at the Sublette County fairgrounds in the old 4-H Hall. Along with an update on state and national political issues from Wyoming Stockgrowers Association, the Saturday session will feature a special guest speaker.

In light of the recent Western Watersheds lawsuit of Pinedale BLM and emphasis on potential sage-grouse listing, GRVCA has been able to bring in internationally acclaimed Montana logger Bruce Vincent to speak about everyone’s commitment to responsible environmentalism. His message is a means of turning the tide of propaganda away from radical environmentalism that is so damaging not only to agriculture, but even to wildlife and the environment itself. Bruce will be conducting a two hour "Help Workshop" on how to ‘tell your story’. Similar to Bruce’s ‘Provider Pals’ program geared toward school education programs, the ‘Help Workshop’ helps teach people how to explain in small steps to the everyday community what you do for a living and how you are providing for the community. The idea of community education and ‘telling your story’ is that once the community is behind the industry, changing public perception of environmental propaganda is much easier. Bruce will discuss ways to turn the tide on the environmentalists’ sage grouse PR campaigns. He has been featured on "60 Minutes", has testified before Congress on natural resource issues, and received the Presidential Preserve America Award in 2004 by President Bush. GRVCA invites the public, and especially anyone involved with education or the oil/gas industry, to attend the workshop.

Following the Saturday afternoon meetings, an elaborate banquet is planned. Diane Alexander of Procat Catering will be cooking up a Prime Rib dinner, followed by a live auction, scholarship raffle, a rousing speech by Bruce Vincent, and live music and dancing with local talent Chuck Murray and his band "Six Foot Two". The evening festivities will be held in the new Sublette County fairgrounds Arena/Events Center beginning at 5:30 PM with an open bar. The folks at the fairgrounds are going all out to provide a dance floor and carpeting on the arena, so it promises to be a fun and entertaining event. Persons need not be a member of GRVCA to attend. Tickets are $35 until Wednesday, Feb. 20th, and $40 after and at the door. They may be purchased at Cowboy Shop, Office Outlet, or by calling 307-749-8284 or 307-360-6142.

Childcare will be available at banquet upon request with good will donations. Please call 307-231-3890 to reserve child care.
