Winter Weather Advisory for western Wyoming mountains
Significant snow, winter driving conditions expected

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the mountains of western Wyoming for Thursday through Friday morning, with significant mountain snow expected and possible snow at lower elevations. Mountain passes may be reduced to zero visibility. The Advisory includes the eastern and western slopes of the Wind River Mountains, Wyoming Range and Gros Ventre Mountains. along with a High Wind Watch from Rock Springs to Jeffrey City to Casper.
THURSDAY - FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6-7:
Mountain snow likely Thursday. Rain and snow showers will become more numerous and will become mainly all snow by Thursday afternoon. The snowfall will become heavy at times later Thursday afternoon through the night and into Friday morning. Snow accumulations of 6 to 11 inches in the high country and 2 to 5 inches below 8500 feet. Southwest winds 10 to 20 mph on the west slope and 25 to 40 mph on the east slope.
On Friday, colder temperatures, with a good chance of rain and mountain snow along with snow at the lower elevations along and west of the Continental Divide through 9 am Friday. Significant snowfall is likely in much of these areas. Snow levels could drop as low as 5000 feet across portions of central Wyoming. Very strong southwest winds of 30 to 40 mph along with gusts of 60 mph are possible from Rock Springs to Jeffrey City to Casper Friday.
A chance of thunderstorms in southeast Natrona and eastern Sweetwater counties Thursday afternoon along with some small hail. Very strong southwest winds of 30 to 40 mph along with gusts of 60 mph are possible from Rock Springs to Jeffrey City to Casper Thursday night.
SOUTH PASS: Southwest winds will be 30 to 55 mph over South Pass where near zero visibility is expected at times in snow and blowing snow, especially during Friday morning.
PREPARATION AND PRECAUTIONS
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow and blowing snow will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving. Hunters and those with other outdoor interests should prepare for a sudden change to winter weather conditions.
