BLM Kemmerer Field Office seeks public input on Slate Creek Allotment Management Plan
by Bureau of Land Management
February 25, 2011

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Kemmerer Field Office (KFO) is initiating the development of an Allotment Management Plan (AMP) for the Slate Creek area north of Kemmerer, Wyo. The KFO is seeking public input on the AMP process which will determine how, when and where livestock will use the approximately 260,000 acre Slate Creek area which extends from Kemmerer to Fontenelle Reservoir.

Currently, there are 10 ranchers who use the Slate Creek area for cattle and sheep grazing from April through November of each year. The area also encompasses oil and gas development in the south and sage-grouse habitat in the north while hunting is a popular pursuit throughout due to the large, solid blocks of public land.

"The AMP process will be very open and public involvement is highly encouraged. Many different people enjoy using this area for work and play and we want to hear from all of them," stated Spencer Allred, rangeland management specialist.

On Thurs., Mar. 10, Allred will be available at the KFO at 312 Hwy. 189 N. until 8:00 p.m. to any member of the public who wishes to speak with him in person. Allred is normally available at the KFO during the regular business hours of 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The anticipated completion date for the AMP is early 2013; however, this may change depending on the level of public involvement and the complexity of the issues that are brought up during the process.

More information, including a map of the Slate Creek area, is available at
http://www.blm.gov/wy/st/en/info/NEPA/documents/kfo/slatecreekamp.html

The public is invited to contact Spencer Allred with any questions or concerns at 307-828-4526 or by email at sallred@blm.gov with "Slate Creek AMP" in the subject line.
