Firewise Home Assessment Workshops offered May 21 & 22
by Bridger-Teton National Forest and Sublette Fire joint release
May 17, 2010

PINEDALE – Sublette County Fire is sponsoring Firewise Home Assessment workshops Friday and Saturday, May 21 and 22 in Pinedale. Bridger-Teton National Forest, in partnership with Sublette County Fire, will also host a FREE firewise and fire safety booth at the Pinedale Home and Garden Show.

Pat Durland, a Wildfire Safety Consultant out of Boise, Idaho, will present "Assessing Hazards in the Home Ignition Zone" for Sublette County Firefighters and area residents on Friday night from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Pinedale Fire station and again on Saturday morning at the Pinedale Home and Garden show in the Sublette County Ice Arena. Sublette County Fire Warden T.J. Hunt recommends calling to reserve a seat as space may be limited but reservations are not required.

Durland, a 30 year fire career veteran with background experience ranging from wildland firefighter to National Wildfire Mitigation Specialist at the National Interagency Fire Center, will give attendees an overview of wildfires and the challenges that they pose for both homeowners and firefighters. He will share valuable information on things such as, creating a defensible space around your home and property, reducing hazardous fuels around your property, installing and maintaining firewise landscaping, and other things that homeowners can do to make a difference in protecting their homes and surrounding property from a wildfire.

There will also be a field trip Saturday afternoon to the Sylvan Bay area to participate in Wildland Urban Interfacehome assessments.

For more information or to reserve a space, please contact T.J. Hunt at 307-859-8872 or fireguy@vcn.com
