Trapping efforts at three Boulder-area elk feedgrounds this week resulted in the testing of 231 adult female elk for brucellosis, with 16 of those animals later sent to slaughter.

Testing occurred Tuesday at the Fall Creek feedground, with 192 elk worked through the chutes, including 122 cow elk, with six positives.

Testing occurred Wednesday at Muddy Creek, with 150 elk through the chutes, 60 of which were adult cows, with three positives and one calf killed in the process.

Testing occurred Thursday at the Scab Creek elk feedground, with 101 elk worked through the chutes. Forty-nine of the elk were adult cows bled for brucellosis testing, of which seven were sent to slaughter. One calf was killed in the process. In addition, two male calves were tested for captured and tested for brucellosis. These calves, which tested negative for the contagious disease, will be transported to Bear River State Park to augment the herd there.

This week's test-and-removal effort has now concluded. Wyoming Game and Fish Department officials plan a second round of testing the week of Feb. 8, 2009.
