Update 3/21/08: A more detailed analysis of the Census Bureau data shows that Sublette County was the 5th fastest growing county among the more than 3,000 counties in the nation between 2006 and 2007. The county was also the second fastest growing county west of the Mississippi River, and the fastest growing county with a population under 19,000. Each year, the Census Bureau puts out a report on the fastest growing counties in the nation that only looks at counties with a population greater than 10,000 – however when all counties are considered, Sublette ranks 5th in growth between July of 2006 and July of 2007.

Sublette County's population grew by 9.4% between 2006 and 2007, according to new estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau. The bureau now estimates Sublette County's population to be 7,925 permanent residents as of July of 2007, up 684 residents from July of 2006.

This is likely the largest one-year population jump in the county's history, in terms of both a percentage increase and a net influx. Year-to-year growth had averaged about 4% between 2000 and 2006, with an increase of 5.25% between 2005 and 2006. Since the 2000 census, the county has grown by 34%, adding about 2000 new residents over the 7 year period.

The Census Bureau works with state agencies to use construction trends, birth/death rates, and other indicators to reach the estimates, which do not include the thousands of temporary or seasonal workers commuting from outside the county or living in the county's motels or man-camps. Estimates for cities and towns are typically not available until late spring.

Sublette County again led the state in population increases, with Campbell County the second highest at a 5.1% jump since 2006. Sweetwater County showed a 3.4% increase. Wyoming's population as a whole increased by 2%.
