Pinedale’s Arbor Day May 17th
Join 3rd grade students at Arbor Day at the American Legion Park
by Lauren McKeever, Assistant to the Mayor, Town of Pinedale
April 30, 2007

Just like other communities across America during the months of April and May, citizens of Pinedale will celebrate Arbor Day at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 17 at the American Legion Park in Pinedale. Arbor Day is an observance that celebrates the important role trees play in our lives and promotes tree planting and care. Nebraska was the first state to observe Arbor Day as a formal holiday in 1872. Wyoming celebrated its first Arbor Day in 1888 and “drizzling rain kept all indoors” the original article said.

Arbor Day is a priceless opportunity for our children to take positive action in their world by learning about and planting trees. The celebration reminds all of us about the gifts of warmth, shelter from wind and sun, wildlife habitats, wood products, erosion control, clean air, beauty and inspiration that trees give us. The simple act of planting trees reflects our hope for future generations.

Be sure to mark May 17th on your calendars. Show your support for the Pinedale’s 3rd grade students as they plant trees at the American Legion Park. If you are interested in making a donation for a planting for Arbor Day, contact Kathleen Peterson, Pinedale Tree Board member, 367-7132. Or, for more information call Lauren at Town Hall, 367-4136.
