Forest Plan Revision Workshop Nov. 28 in Pinedale
Others planned for Jackson, Kemmerer and Thayne in November
by Bridger-Teton National Forest
October 5, 2006

The Bridger-Teton National Forest invites the public to get involved in the revision of the Bridger-Teton Forest Plan, by attending one of four public workshops scheduled to occur in Kemmerer, Jackson, Pinedale and Thayne, Wyoming, during the week of November 27th. These workshops are part of a continual effort on the part of the Forest to meet with and involve local and regional communities in the revision of the Bridger-Teton Land and Resource Management Plan, also known as the Forest Plan.

The objective of these workshops is to present information that Forest personnel have collected over recent months concerning current conditions throughout the Forest, and learn what the public sees as the “Need for Change.” Identifying this Need for Change helps Forest planners prioritize topics to address in producing a proposed Revision of the Forest Plan. The dates and locations for the November workshops are as follows:

Monday, November 27: Kemmerer
Ambulance Barn – 611 Onyx Street
6:00 pm-9:30 pm

Wednesday, November 29: Jackson
Jackson High School – 1910 W High School Rd
6:00 pm-9:30 pm

Tuesday, November 28: Pinedale
Pinedale High School Cafeteria
6:00 pm-9:30 pm

Thursday, November 30: Thayne
Senior Center, 115 Peterson
6:00 pm-9:30 pm

These November workshops will focus on the current status of Desired Conditions for social sustainability, including recreation opportunities, roads and trails, and special areas such as Wilderness, Wild & Scenic Rivers and primitive backcountry/roadless. Relevant Desired Conditions for economic sustainability, such as commercial recreation and energy resources, will also be addressed.

A subsequent round of workshops, planned for early March, will focus on current status of Desired Conditions for ecological sustainability and economic Desired Conditions related to those.

In the previous two rounds of Forest Plan Revision workshops, held in July and December, 2005, the Forest worked with the public to develop and refine a framework of Desired Conditions. These have since been publicized as a draft Chapter 1 of the Revised Plan, available on the web at http://www.fs.fed.us/r4/btnf/news/forest_plan_revision/fpr_static_lincs/fpr/chap1_6_14_06.pdf
.

The purpose in this third round of workshops is to investigate how current conditions on the Forest compare to the Desired Conditions we worked together to identify. The difference between the two is the “Need for Change” that the Forest strives to address as they work together with the public to develop a proposed Revision in 2007.
