Slide Fire declared out
July 24, 2019

The Slide Fire was declared out as of Tuesday morning, July 23rd. The fire was contained as of Monday evening and controlled Tuesday morning. The fire was originally started by lightning and was detected on Friday, July 19th burning on the Bridger-Teton National Forest in the North Fork Fisherman Creek drainage in the Hoback. Crews kept the blaze to three acres. Crews fighting the blaze included 18 smokejumpers (from West Yellowstone Montana and Boise Idaho) and a 20-person hotshot crew (from northern Utah) alongside Sublette County and federal firefighters. Several helicopters assisted doing bucket drops. As of Tuesday, the hotshot crew hiked off the mountain and remaining crews finished mop-up operations and removal of equipment. The helicopter repositioned to the Pinedale Airport back in service as needed.

Fire danger has increased to "High" for Bridger-Teton National Forest, Grand Teton National Park, National Elk Refuge, and the rest of the Teton Interagency Dispatch Area. There are no fire restrictions currently in place, but it is important to be aware of the increased risk and take extra care when building campfires, parking on dry grass, or recreating outdoors. Those building campfires should be prepared with plenty of water and a shovel on hand. Campers need to be aware they could be held liable for suppression costs if their campfire becomes a wildfire.
