Regional artists and beyond are looking forward to exhibiting a variety of paintings, drawings, etchings, metal art, pottery, and sculpture at the Third Annual Sublette County Fair Lynn Thomas Memorial Art Show at the Community Hall on the Sublette County Fairgrounds in Big Piney, Wyoming. The show opens on Sunday, July 24, and will be on display through Saturday, July 30. Artists will be painting in the area on Thursday, July 28. The public is cordially invited to a reception at the Community Hall that evening beginning at 5:30 P. M.
Pinedale Elementary School art teacher, Cristy Anspach, will select Best of Show which includes a cash prize of $100. Director's Choice award is $50. Four Purchase Awards will be given by Jo Crandall, Jay and Brianne Brower, Melanie and Cory Bennett, and First Bank. There is also a ribbon for People's Choice.
The show is open to participants 18 years of age and up. Artwork will be accepted at the Fair Office beginning on Monday, July 18. A committee will begin hanging the show on Saturday, July 23. It is one of the few art shows that requires no entry fees or financial contributions from the artists. Any sales go directly to the artists.
The event is co-sponsored by the Sublette County Fair Board and the Mixed Media art group. It is in memory of Boulder, Wyoming artist, Lynn Thomas, who died of cancer in 2009. She was a long-time member of Women Artists of the West and a stalwart supporter of the Fair, 4-H, the Sublette County community in general, and the arts all across the state. She generously donated many paintings to multiple causes. She was president of the Wyoming Artists' Association, and the organization's Grand Wyoming Artist in 1997, a member of the Sublette County Artists' Guild, and a signature member of the Mixed Media art group.
It is the goal of the Fair Board to promote the art show as a prestigious "destination" event each year.
