Options available to dispose of unused medications
August 11, 2015

In order to keep prescription medications from entering waterways and drinking water supplies, people are discouraged from dumping their unused medications down the drain. Below are options for medication disposal:

- Donate medications to the Wyoming Department of Health's Medication Donation Program, which redistributes medicines to qualified residents who have low incomes, are without insurance or are under insured. Call (855) 257-5041 to see what medications and medical items can be accepted, or visit www.wyomedicationdonation.org.

- Local Law Enforcement offers drop boxes for outdated medications. In Sublette County, drop off pills, veterinarian medications, over-the-counter meds, vitamins, medical patches or creams (no sharps, please) at the Pinedale Circuit Court Building, 40 South Fremont Street, Pinedale WY 82941 or the Marbleton Sheriff's Office, 19 West 4th St. Marbleton.

- Mix prescription drugs with an undesirable substance, such as used coffee grounds or kitty litter, and put them in impermeable, non-descript containers, such as empty cans or sealable plastic bags, and dispose.

For more information about prescription and over-the-counter drug abuse, and for safe drug disposal, visit www.pmowyo.org or Community Prevention Professional, Ranae Pape at 307-360-6382, rpape@pmowyo.org.
