by Bureau of Land Management
May 22, 2014

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Pinedale Field Office, in coordination with the Pinedale Anticline Project Office (PAPO), is seeking public comments on the environmental assessment (EA) for the proposed Sublette Mule Deer Mitigation Plan.

The plan is a joint proposal of the BLM, the PAPO and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department in response to the decline of the mule deer population on the Mesa winter range near Pinedale, Wyo. The plan would improve the quantity and quality of habitat in the Sublette Mule Deer Herd Unit with focus on the Ryegrass, Soapholes and Mesa areas by treating 4,183 acres over a period of four years. Mechanical treatments would use a Lawson Aerator or Dixie Harrow and herbicide treatments would use Tebuthiuron. Prescribed burning, fencing, shrub planting, drill seeding, the development of water sources and the application of Bentonite to reservoirs would also be used to enhance habitat.

The preliminary EA is available for public review at A hard copy is available by calling 307-367-5300 no later than May 27.
