Albert Sommers announces reelection bid for HD20
March 24, 2014
On March 24th, Albert Sommers announced his intention to seek reelection for the position of House District #20 representative. He has served in that position for the past two years. Below is his media release.
Hello Sublette County, I have had the honor of serving you in the state legislature over the course of the last two legislative sessions, and my current two year term will end next January. In order to end any speculation, I would like to announce my candidacy for the Republican Primary for House District 20 and ask the citizens of Sublette County to support me in next fallís election. The last two legislative sessions have been fast paced and contentious at times, but I have learned a great deal about the legislative process. Building relationships with legislative colleagues and being informed is the key to being an effective legislator. It is not enough to simply have a good idea, a legislator must convince 30 other members of the House that the idea is worthy, and then convince 16 senators. Solutions are found when people work together, and in the legislature an opponent on an issue today could be an ally on another issue tomorrow. My strength as a legislator lies in my ability to develop relationships, listen, become informed on a variety of issues, and articulate my position.
I am a solution-oriented person who sees the best government as that closest to the people. If re-elected, I will continue to look for guidance from those elected bodies in Sublette County that serve its citizens. These entities have their fingers on the pulse of the community and know what is needed to keep the county, towns, and schools operating effectively. I have developed a good working relationship with the elected officials in this county, and I hope to continue that positive relationship.
I have worked hard to keep the citizens of Sublette County informed during the legislative sessions, and will continue that effort if re-elected. I appreciate and value all of the input I have received from county residents, and I hope people will continue to provide me with feedback. Our democracy works best when citizens are engaged in the process, and I look forward to visiting with you along the campaign trail.
