Public Meeting regarding National Register nomination of the Green River Drift Sept. 15
by Wyoming State Historic Preservation Office
September 6, 2011

The Sublette County Historic Preservation Board will be hosting a public meeting at the Sublette County Public Library, Lovatt Room, at 6:00 pm on Thursday, September 15, 2011. Staff from the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) will present information on the National Register of Historic Places Program and nomination process. They will also discuss how the Green River Drift meets the National Register Criteria for significance and what this means for the property owners along the Drift, including the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management. This meeting will be an open forum for property owners and members of the public to ask questions and voice opinions.

The National Register of Historic Places is the nationís official list of cultural resources worth of preservation. Authorized under the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Register is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate and protect our historic and archeological resources.

Listing on the National Register provides recognition of the property's historic significance; however, it does not restrict the right of the owner to use, develop, maintain, or sell the property. Properties listed in the Register include districts, sites, buildings, structures and objects that are significant in American history, architecture, archeology, engineering and culture.

The National Register is administered by the National Park Service, which is part of the U.S. Department of the Interior.
