Wrangler Alpine team takes second 99 to 102 at Casper meet

Pinedale skiers put on a strong showing at the Kelly Walsh Invitational Alpine Ski Meet this past weekend in Casper.
After the first day of the Slalom race, the Wrangles girl’s team found themselves 17 points behind the Jackson team after the first day of racing. The girls, led by Laney Johnston, rallied on the second day of the race and won the day, but came up 3 points short for winning the meet.
"I am really pleased and proud of how the both the boys and girls teams skied at this meet," said Alpine Coach Jeff Wohl. "This was a great warm-up for the season. Everyone on the team knows that they can improve their skiing in some way."
"I think this is going to be a great competitive season," Wohl said. He added that both the boys and girls fields seem more balanced, with all of the six teams from around the state being completive.
"All of the girls are skiing better than they ever have," he added. "I am especially proud of the boy’s team. While they finished last in the ranking, it is only because they are skiing faster than they ever have and need to learn how to control the speed so they can complete two runs."
Wohl said, "We just need everyone to finish every race. If we can, both our boys and girls teams will be very tough competition for any team in the state. This was a great meet and a lot of fun. There was some awesome skiing on all the teams. This coming week we head to Cody to race. It is a great challenging hill and we will be racing Giant Slalom, a much faster race. I know the team can’t wait!"
