A Festival of Lessons and Carols Dec. 12
A Community Tradition
by Sue Briggs
December 9, 2010
For the past 31 years, the Community Choir has presented a celebration of the Christmas story through music and scripture readings.
This tradition began at the Community Congregational (UCC) Church with Miriam Kerback and Patty Kerback directing, and then expanded into a collaborative program between the Community United Church of Christ, Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and St. Andrew in the Pines Episcopal Church. Now, Our Savior's Lutheran and The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints have joined the other churches hosting the choir. It soon grew to include anyone in the community who likes to sing, and are willing to practice Christmas music in October! That is still the only requirement for participation. Make a joyful noise!
Coralee Petersen directed this choir for 18 years, and has now passed on the directing job to Sue Briggs, who is in her fifth year of directing. Candy Herda-Scott is in her second year as the choir's accompanist, and about forty community voices have been rehearsing and are ready to perform.
A variety of music will be sung, interspersed with scripture readings to tell the story of the prophecy and birth of Christ. This year’s host church is Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church located at 214 E. Main Street in Pinedale.
The performance will be held on Sunday, December 12th at 3:00 p.m. and will be followed by a reception. We are collecting nonperishable donations for the Food Basket, but other than that, admission is free. Please add this date to your holiday list and join us in celebrating the season through song and fellowship.
