This rock and log lodge was built in 1954 as part of the Gannet Peak Bar Ranch which operated for more than 30 years as a dude ranch. The GP-Bar Ranch and buildings were purchased by the government in 1966 to acquire the lakeshore and surrounding property to put into general public use. Today the lodge is closed to the public and used only on an occasional basis for administrative use.
