Pinedale BLM extends Comment Period on Randís Butte Project
Cimarex Energy methane and helium recovery facility
by Bureau of Land Management
February 17, 2010

The Bureau of Land Management Pinedale Field Office (BLM) is extending the public comment period 15 calendar days for the Randís Butte Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) on support facilities for the new methane and helium recovery facility west of Big Piney, Wyo.

Comments are due by close-of-business on March 12, 2010. The comment period has been extended due to the size of the EA, and many Commenters are interested in other environmental documents that are being reviewed or commented on simultaneously.

The federal components of the project would include constructing: four gas supply wells, a hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and carbon dioxide (CO2) injection well; a 230 kV power line; a natural gas pipeline; a raw helium pipeline; and an ambient air monitoring and weather station.

Public comments are an important component in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process. The public is encouraged to participate in the process to help identify issues or concerns not covered in the Draft EA, mitigation opportunities, and any other comments or ideas to help ensure the best possible plan.

For more information please contact Bill Lanning at: 307-367-5318. The complete Draft EA is available online at: http://www.blm.gov/wy/st/en/info/NEPA/pfodocs/RandsButte.html.

To submit comments electronically, mention "Randís Butte" in the subject line. Submit written comments to: Field Manager, BLM Pinedale Field Office, PO Box 768 Pinedale, Wyo. 82941, Fax: 307-367-5329, email to: pinedale_wymail@blm.gov, or hand deliver to 1625 West Pine St. Pinedale, Wyo. between 7:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The BLM manages more land Ė 253 million acres Ė than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western States, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLMís multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
