Last Friday and Saturday (Nov. 6th-7th) 40 members of the Pinedale Wrangler Marching Band traveled to Laramie to participate in the University of Wyoming Band Days. They practiced with 22 other high school bands and the 155 member UW Marching Band and then participated in a 1000 student mass band performance during halftime of the BYU- University of Wyoming Cowboy football game. This was the most school bands attending in many years and one of the biggest UW marching bands ever that put over a 1000 musicians on the field at the same time.

While there they were involved in a morning practice/marching clinic and then watched the game before participating in the half time show. The theme for this year’s half time show was "A Tribute to the King of Pop" and the mass band performed the Michael Jackson tune Beat It followed by Wyoming’s favorite Cowboy Joe.

Schools participating were Riverton HS, Lander HS, Douglas HS, Cody HS, Mitchell HS, Sundance HS, Guernsey-Sunrise JH-HS, Newcastle HS, Laramie HS, Rock Springs HS, Moorcroft HS, UW Lab School, Powell HS, Sandhills/Thedford HS, Bridgeport HS, Lovell HS, Rawlins HS, Chugwater HS, Glendo HS, Kemmerer HS, Hannah – Elk Mountain HS and Pinedale High School. These high school students came from all over Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska to perform at War Memorial Stadium. There were 19,021 people in attendance at the game on a day that was highlighted by nice weather for November in Laramie.

The day was a total success due in large part to the great attitude and music ability of the Pinedale students. These students, director, chaperones and bus drivers left Pinedale at 4:00 PM Friday and returned home late Saturday night. Pinedale should be proud of the way they represented our community at the University of Wyoming.

Sue Holz, Jeff and Vicki Makelky were the chaperones on the trip. Bus drivers for Pinedale were John Overgaag and Ray Sanborn. The Pinedale band is under the direction of R. Craig Sheppard.
