DEQ to host Open House over Belvoir Ranch groundwater contamination
Trichloroethylene contamination of city of Cheyenne drinking water
by Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality
July 27, 2009

(Cheyenne, Wyo.) The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the City of Cheyenne will be hosting an open house to discuss groundwater contamination related to a former missile site (Atlas Missile Site 4) on the Belvoir Ranch near Cheyenne, WY.

Trichloroethylene, an industrial solvent, was used at the missile site to clean missiles and other machine parts during the Cold War. Trichloroethylene was disposed of on the ground. It moved downward and got into the groundwater at the site. It has also moved east from the missile site to Cheyenne's Municipal Borie well field.

Cheyenne's water is safe, it is being treated to remove Trichloroethylene. This open house will present on possible remediation efforts, studies already conducted, and other information pertaining to this site.

The public meeting will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Laramie County Library, Cottonwood Room.

For information on the meeting or the site contact: Jane Francis, WDEQ, 307-777-7092.
