WARN Health Alert - – Simulated Message #3
Pandemic Flu Alert (this is only a practice exercise – there is no real health alert)
by Pinedale Online in cooperation with Sublette County Public Health
March 3, 2009

Editor’s Note: Pinedale Online is participating in the Sublette County Pandemic Infrastructure Protection Tabletop Exercise. The alert message below is a simulation. We are posting it as part of our role disseminating alert messages from state and county health officials to media. There is no real health alert. In the event of a real alert, a press release would be issued by health officials and we would post it here on Pinedale Online. Sublette County Public Health Officials, medical staff, EMS personnel and local media are all working together to fine tune our roles and ability to react in the event of a real medical emergency. The Sublette County Pandemic Protection Tabletop Exercise will be held on Wednesday, March 4th at the Pinedale Ambulance Barn. "How will your organization/company/municipality continue to provide services during a pandemic event with 40% of your workforces unavailable?" For more information contact Mary Lynn Worl, Sublette County Pandemic Flu Coordinator. 307-367-4309, mlworl@centurytel.net, or call Sublette County Public Health at 307-367-2157.

The following is the last (third) of three pre-cursor exercise messages being sent in conjunction with the Sublette County Pandemic Infrastructure Protection Tabletop Exercise which will be held at the Pinedale Ambulance Barn on Wednesday, March 4, in Pinedale. Please note that this is a fictional simulated exercise message. For more information contact Mary Lynn Worl, Sublette County Pandemic Flu Coordinator. 307-367-4309, mlworl@centurytel.net, or call Sublette County Public Health at 307-367-2157.

EXERCISE MESSAGE #3
Wyoming Department of Health
Health Alert Network – Exercise Message
March 3, 2009 – PHASE 4.2 Exercise

Positive Influenza (H5NX) in Wyoming THIS IS A SIMULATED SITUATION

Background
As of February 12, 2009 there has been a report of a laboratory-confirmed case of Influenza (H5NX) within Wyoming. This novel strain is responsible for the influenza pandemic that is affecting many other countries and is rapidly spreading around the world. The (H5NX) virus has been identified in an adult male from Laramie County. The (H5NX) strain has emerged as a new influenza virus for which people have little or no immunity, and for which there is no current vaccine. The disease spreads easily from person-to-person; it causes serious respiratory illness, affecting multiple states across the United States. This is the first positive (H5NX) influenza virus detected in Wyoming; however it is a near certainty that it will appear in other parts of the state. Therefore it is critical that healthcare providers adhere to the following recommendations from the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) in order to detect other (H5NX) viruses in Wyoming.
