Winter Arrives
Winter weather finally arrives
December 8, 2008

A cold front will bring a storm system through of western and central Wyoming during the early part of this week.

Snowfall of 2 to 4 inches are expected in the western mountains of the Continental Divide and an inch or two may fall in the far west valleys. Six to 12 inches can be expected in the mountains of central and northern Wyoming.

East of the Divide, the snow will continue into the south and central areas of Wyoming in Sweetwater County. Snowfall of 3 to 6 inches will be common over the Absaroka Mountains. Lower elevations will see 1 to 3 inches, with an inch or two elsewhere. The snow will rapidly taper off later Monday evening.

Roads will become snow covered and slick as this system moves through. Significant snowfall and much colder weather is expected Friday night through Sunday across west and central portions of the state. According to the National Weather Service out of Riverton, this winter storm system will likely have significant impacts on travel and outdoor activities.
