Update 3:09 PM, Wednesday, May 28: Lingering showers and thunderstorms are moving through Pinedale and Cora areas. These storms are capable of producing small hail, brief heavy rain, wind gusts up 40 mph and dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning. People outside this afternoon need to take appropriate precautions for the threats from these storms. These storms continue to move to the northeast into the high country.
Update 2:11 PM MDT WED MAY 28 2008: National Weather Service Special Weather Statement update: Isolated to scattered thunderstorms continue this afternoon across much of western Wyoming. The storms are expected to produce small hail, brief heavy rain, wind gusts up to 40 mph and dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning. People outside today need to take appropriate precautions for the threats from these thunderstorms including seeking shelter from lightning. Showers and thunderstorms will continue to move north and east into the western Big Horn and Wind River Basins. Motorists should be careful when traveling through rain and hail showers as well.

Wednesday, May 28, 11:42AM Update: The National Weather Service out of Riverton has issued a Significant Weather Advisory for Lincoln and Teton Counties impacting Jackson Hole, the Salt River and Wyoming Ranges, Star Valley, and the Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains, including Hoback Junction areas.
At 11:36AM MDT National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a thunderstorms near the Star Valley Rest Area, or 13 miles northwest of Afton, moving northeast at 20 mph.
Pea size hail and winds around 40 mph are possible with this storm. Dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning is also possible with this storm.
Residents in northwestern Lincoln and southwestern Teton counties including the locations of Thayne, Star Valley rest area, Freedom, Hoback Junction should monitor the weather situation closely. Listen for possible warnings and be prepared to take appropriate action should severe weather threaten.
