Qwest service outage affecting Wyoming customers
About 16,000 customers affected: Outage not related to May 22 tornadoes
May 23, 2008

Qwest is experiencing a service outage that is affecting approximately 16,000 customers in much of Wyoming. Customers are able to make local and emergency calls. It is not known what caused the outage, but reports are that it is not related to yesterday’s tornadoes in Wyoming.

Technicians are in the field working to locate and identify the problem. Qwest was not able to give a service-restoration time.

Communities affected include Riverton, Lander, Wheatland, Douglas, Glenrock, Gillette, Sheridan, Wright, Dayton-Ranchester, Story, Buffalo, Cody, Powell, Jackson, Afton and Moran.

Editor's Note: We have heard reports from Pinedale residents that Verizon cell service has not been working today (Friday, May 23), however Union Cellular cell phone long-distance service is working. We have also received some reports of some local businesses experiencing outages with their credit card processing links today and valid customer cards being declined during the swipe process. CenturyTel long distance has been working today.
