Strong Winter Storm possible, but will likely go south of Pinedale

The National Weather Service is advising of a strong winter storm approaching Friday and Saturday that is expected to impact south and central Wyoming. The storm is off the California coast today (Thursday, December 6) and will move towards southern Wyoming with snow and strong wind developing early Friday. Heavy snow is expected across southern Wyoming beginning Friday morning. Snowfall will spread north through the late morning hours Friday, reaching into Fremont and Natrona Counties by around 11:00 am. Heavy snow is possible through Saturday morning along with strong north-northwest winds before the system moves out of the area on Saturday.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for South Lincoln County, including the towns of Kemmerer and Cokeville. The Warning is in effect through Saturday morning. The heaviest snow is expected to be Friday evening and into the very early morning hours Saturday. Accumulations of 6 to 8 inches, or more, are possible in the Kemmerer area, creating hazardous driving conditions.
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the east side of the Continental Divide and the Wind River Basin and Lander Foothills, including the cities of Riverton, Shoshoni and Lander. It is in effect through Saturday morning. Accumulations of 5-8 inches are possible in the county with 12 inches expected in Lander. Heavy snowfall will impact Highways 287, 789 and 28 throughout Fremont County.
South Pass is expected to get from 8 to 15 inches of snow. Strong northeast winds may cause whiteout conditions over the pass creating hazardous driving conditions.
A Winter Storm Watch is also in effect for the Rock Springs, Green River, Flaming Gorge and East Sweetwater County areas from late Thursday night through Saturday morning. Strong winds may create whiteout conditions. Heavy snowfall may impact Interstate 80, Highway 28 and Highway 191 through Sweetwater County creating hazardous driving conditions.

Friday: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 26. Wind chill values as low as -5. East wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Friday Night: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 7. Wind chill values as low as -4. East wind between 11 and 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
Saturday: A 50 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 22. East northeast wind 8 to 13 mph becoming south southeast.
