Juniors and seniors attending Big Piney and Pinedale High Schools have the opportunity to increase their ACT test scores by taking a free ACT Test Preparation class in Big Piney starting September 11, 2007. Participants will also receive the free text, The Real ACT Prep Guide, valued at $25.
The first ACT Test for the 2007-2008 scholastic year will be proctored at Big Piney High School and Pinedale High School on Thursday, October 25, 2007. Students have approximately seven weeks to tune up their test taking skills before the exam.
Offered by the Board of Cooperative Educational Services for Big Piney and Marbleton and Western Wyoming Community College’s GEAR UP program, the class will be held on Tuesdays, one session in the morning and a second session in the evenings. The Tuesday morning sessions, held from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. at Big Piney High School, will focus on mathematics and science. The Tuesday evening sessions, held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Big Piney Middle School, will focus on English and reading. Both classes will be taught by Wyoming certified instructors.
The Wyoming Hathaway Scholarship Program designated the ACT Test as the official exam to determine readiness for college. Further, ACT scores help determine the amount of scholarship funds provided to a Wyoming High School graduate who enrolls at the University of Wyoming or one of Wyoming’s seven community colleges. Students who earn higher ACT scores and GPAs can expect more scholarship monies!
WWCC offers a variety of scholarships which require specific minimum ACT scores, such as 27 for the college’s Superior Student Scholarship, 25 for the Honors Award, 21 for the Performance Award, 19 for the Opportunity Award and 17 (or a Workkeys score of 12) for the Career Award. Many other WWCC scholarships are also available. “Higher ACT scores can help students earn higher scholarship awards,” said Jocelyn Moore, WWCC GEAR UP representative in Sublette County.
