As the first in a series of summer events from the Pinedale Fine Arts Council, the Kris Johnson Music Ensemble (KJME) will be performing their own flavor of jazz on July 4 at the Town’s Annual 4th of July Picnic in the American Legion Park at 4:30 p.m. (Picnic starts at 4:00 p.m.)
Hailing from Lansing, Michigan, the band features Pinedale High School Graduate Ryan Ptasnik on drums. Ptasnik honed his drumming skills in Craig Sheppard’s band classes throughout his tenure in Pinedales.
In addition to their 4th of July show, KJME will also play at Rendezvous Pointe in Pinedale on Monday, July 2 at 12:30 p.m. for seniors and community members (everyone’s welcome and it’s free!). The group will also visit the Big Piney/Marbleton area with a performance on Tuesday, July 3, at the Southwest Sublette County Pioneers center in Marbleton at 12:00 p.m. Finally, on Thursday, July 5, the group will host their own informative jazz workshop at the Pinedale Library Lovatt Room from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feel free to bring your instrument as the group will save the last hour to work individually with budding musicians.
The members of the Kris Johnson Music Ensemble are emerging jazz musicians that share one common objective: creating high quality music. KJME’s sound is a blend of swing, bebop, Latin jazz, and modern jazz featuring arrangements and compositions by the members of the ensemble. Future Pinedale Fine Arts council summer events include the Wyoming Shakespeare Companies performance of MACBETH on July 22 at 2 p.m. in the American Legion Park and Seattle singer songwriter Molly Rose on August 11 at the American Legion Park.
