Last month’s notice of an escaped convict on the loose in or near Sublette County finally came to an end when the man was taken into custody.
Undersheriff Jim Whinnery said that while he didn’t know details of how Rick R. Beumer was taken into custody, he said it took place in Las Vegas June 22.
Pinedale residents were put on alert at about 9 p.m. on May 5 as KPIN radio station announced that an escaped prisoner was believed to be loose in the area and continued to elude law enforcement. KPIN owner Bob Rule announced the 42-year old had escaped a facility in Lander and may have been en route to Sublette County in an attempt to locate his girlfriend Friday night. The man was last seen wearing an orange Fremont County jumpsuit.
A vehicle that had been reported stolen in Lander was found broken down and abandoned on Highway 28 east of Farson, according to the notice from the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office.
Beumer was described as a 5-foot, 8-inch white male weighing 182 pounds, with brown eyes, long brown hair and having numerous tattoos on his arms and upper boday as well as possibly having a beard and mustache.
The release also noted that, "This man is extremely dangerous."
Residents were warned to not make contact or attempt to apprehend Beumer, but to call 911 and report any sightings of the man. Through numerous calls to the sheriff’s office, nearly everyone with a tattoo in Sublette County was reported. All the alleged sightings around the Pinedale area were confirmed to not be Beumer, according to the sheriff’s office.
