This spring, Pinedale Middle Schoolís Student Senate held a contest to develop a logo for the Pinedale Middle School hoodie. Kelsi Sluyter had the winning design. Sluyter said that she accessed the Internet to get ideas. "I got an idea, tweaked it and drew it differently," she said. The result was a happy and frisky looking colt, the teamís mascot.
The money raised from the sale of the hoodies (sweatshirt with attached hood) is benefiting Riverdale Middle School (RMS) in Jefferson, Louisiana. RMS has taken in many of the students who were displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The money will be used for books and lab fees. This yearís president, Kristin Corwin had this to say about the fundraiser. "It was nice to be able to give money to those affected by the hurricane."
The Student Senate, sponsored by teacher, Sherrill Hudson, is devoted to encouraging school spirit and community service. Hudson said that several years ago they adopted a 2-mile stretch of the highway which they still pick up. She also said that the Student Senate will also make a donation to the schoolís Lagoon trip. In December they collected 603 cans for the Food Basket. "The senate has done a good job this year and has benefited from Corwinís leadership," Hudson said.
