Snow Advisory until 5 pm Wednesday
January 17, 2006

A strong storm system will move into the Rocky Mountain Region Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing another round of significant snow for Wyoming’s western mountains. The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a Snow Advisory until 5 pm on Wednesday. Storm snow totals will range from 3 to 5 inches, with locally higher amounts possible around Bondurant.

The Snow Advisory means that periods of heavy snow will cause travel difficulties. Travelers should expect winter driving conditions with snow-covered roads and limited visibility at times. Gusty winds are expected with this storm which will cause blowing and drifting snow.

The eastern side of the state will also likely see high winds, with gusts of over 60 mph possible in the Lander area after midnight Tuesday through Wednesday morning. Sustained winds may be over 40 mph. Mountain passes will see westerly winds of 25-40 mph, with gusts to 55 mph common.

Valley locations are expected to pick up from 4-7 inches of snow by Wednesday and mountains are likely to receive up to a foot of new snow.
