New Burzlander Town Park designated
Named after Doris & Buzz Burzlander
November 16, 2005

(Pinedale) At their regular council meeting on Monday night, the Pinedale Town Council voted to create a new park in Pinedale, "Burzlander Town Park". The new park is a small parcel of town property located adjacent to the sledding hill just off Skyline Drive on the east side of Pinedale.

The new park is named after long-time Sublette County residents, Doris and Buzz Burzlander. Both were killed last July in a tragic car accident south of Pinedale. They were age 84 and 87.

The Burzlanders were prominent public figures in Pinedale. They were political and environmental activists at the local and national levels on issues that affected the quality of life in Sublette County. Doris served as both Mayor and Councilwoman for the Town of Pinedale. She was also a member of the original Wagon Wheel Information Committee which helped block federal government plans to explode a nuclear warhead near Big Piney in the 1970s as part of development of the emerging oil and gas industry in the county. The Burzlanders owned and operated the Rivera Motel in Pinedale for many years. Buzz started Sublette Electric and was prominent on the school board in Pinedale.

Plans for future improvements of the new park have not yet been announced.
