Finding a job in the oil field

We’re getting more and more inquiries from folks wanting to know how to find a job in the booming gas and oil fields here in western Wyoming. We don’t have a job placement office here in Pinedale, so that makes it more of a challenge finding where the job openings are.

First off, you should know that the easy part will be finding a job here. The HARD part is finding a place to live. Housing is extremely scarce. The waiting list for rentals is very long and there are very few apartments or trailer spaces available. So if you are looking for work here, be sure to secure both work and housing before you come.

That being said, how do you find out about jobs? The first place to look is the classified ads in our two local newspapers, the Pinedale Roundup and the Sublette Examiner. The Sublette Examiner posts their classified ads on their website and you can view it for free. You’ll need a subscription to view the online version of the Pinedale Roundup to get to the classified ads and job listings. Both papers are published on Thursdays. If you are anywhere in the county, get the printed paper first thing Thursday and call right away on anything you see for jobs or housing, as availabilities move fast. Some companies also advertise in the Casper Star Tribune and the Rock Springs/Green River newspapers.

Some of the bigger oil and gas companies advertise through the job placement offices in Rock Springs and through the state employment office. See the links at the end of this article for website links.

For housing information, again check the papers. Local real estate agencies keep lists of available rentals. For temporary housing, contact the local motels for long-term room stay arrangements. The new AmeriHost motel will officially open its doors on June 15th, but you can make your reservations now by calling 307-367-8300. The Sublette County Chamber of Commerce keeps a current room availability list at the Visitor Center for the county motels during the summer, 307-367-2242.

Additional Job Contacts:
Questar: Applications only accepted when openings are available. Call Tammy Chabre in their Salt Lake City office, 801-324-2764, and she can let you know if there are any current openings in Wyoming or in other areas where the company operates.
