County Fair - Little Buckaroo Rodeo

The Little Buckaroo Rodeo was held Wednesday evening at the fairgrounds near Big Piney. Contestants ranged in age from 4 to 12 and competed in calf riding, stick horse barrel racing, goat tieing, sheep riding, bareback riding and calf roping. There were so many contestants that the events lasted for over 3 hours. Most of the large crowd stayed through the rainstorm and well into the night.
This event is becoming a yearly favorite for kids and adults. The stick horse barrel racing had over 50 entrants, including many in the Under 4 category. The young ones didnít seem to understand the barrel weave, but circled the barrels anyway. The calf riding and bareback riding were much more serious. The cowboys, cowgirls and livestock were smaller than their adult counterparts, but the joy, and sometimes pain, was just as real. Winners in each event were given a belt buckle to show their accomplishments.
