Description: | The Sublette County Historical Society is taking applications of interest for a part-time summer staff person to help at the Sommers Homestead Living History Museum.
Our ideal candidate would be an upbeat, energetic and motivated self-starter who loves history. Must be friendly and enjoy interacting with young children and the public.
Hours would be somewhat flexible. During the Homestead regular open season June, July and August, hours would usually be Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9AM to 4PM, with possible additional days as needed during the week. In May and September, weekday hours would be scheduled to accommodate numerous school children group tours for hands-on living history activities.
Main duties would be to staff the Homestead June, July & August on Fridays and Saturdays during the summer open hours (10AM to 3PM) to open and close the buildings on the site, greet visitors and help with demonstrating hands-on living history activities, answer visitor questions, help in the gift shop, and coordinate scheduling group tour visits.
Helpful to be a "Jack or Jill" of all trades and be somewhat handy with hand tools for occasional light maintenance, willing to occasionally paint a fence, run a weedeater, water plants, and do some light housekeeping. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to be away from a cell phone during work hours. Starting wage is $12.00/hour.
The Homestead is located 7.3 miles south on the East Green River Road. It is owned and operated by the Sublette County Historical Society, a non-profit organization, which also operates the Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale. The Homestead is jointly managed by the Sublette County Historical Society, Green River Valley Museum, and siblings Jonita and Albert Sommers.
