View Down Valley

Upper Green And Green River Lakes On Friday, I was fortunate to be
given a tour of the Dollar Fire from basecamp to the lakes. Thank you
to Pinedale Online for the help in getting this permission. And also
thank you to some very accommodating personnel from the Dollar Fire.
They were very professional and top-notch. We left the basecamp and
made our way to the Lower Green River Lake passing through several
division areas. The fire has burned much like many fires in our areas
in recent years- -hot is some places and a mosaic pattern in others.
Honestly, there are a lot of dead trees, but I have seen much worse
devastation. We were told the sagebrush was not receptive to burning
at the height of the fire due to moisture content. That was obvious
when some sagebrush dominated areas did not burn in a pattern you
might expect. It was quite difficult to tell what the burn pattern is
along the west side of the lower lake. The smoke and haze was heavy
along with a very flat overcast sky, but it appears a mosaic pattern
burned along the west side. Could not tell to any degree what has
happened further up the valley toward the Upper Lake, Porcupine or
Square Top. But it does not appear to have burned on the east side of
the lakes. My observation and review of detailed fire maps. Thank you
again to the Dollar Lake fire staff. It was impressive. Dave Bell
